Formerly a city of tentacular bungalows and ancestral houses, the Delhi real estate market has now become a battlefield for the middle class, captured between the prices of the sky and the expectations of the old world. While infrastructure upgrades and urban sprawl swell the value of properties through the capital, the account which gives reflection a Reddit user reveals the painful inadequacy between real estate dreams and the realities of the field. Their story, echoing thousands of people through the city, highlights the dark arithmetic to try to have a house in Delhi today.

Underlined by a Reddit viral position, the cost of possession of a house in Delhi has left a lot amazed. “Delhi’s real estate is out of reach of a middle class employee,” wrote the user, capturing a feeling that has touched an agreement with a lot.

Sharing their struggle, the user told how his family insisted to buy in Delhi due to “the old state of mind that Ghaziabad / Noida is bad”. Research has led to revealing discoveries:

Delhi de l’Est

  • IP extension: 3 BHK in a closed colony starts at 1.8 crore ₹
  • Krishna Nagar: 3 BHK is between 95 lakh at 1.8 crores ₹
  • Laxmi Nagar: avoided because of its “bad reputation”

South Delhi

  • CR Park: ₹ 4.5 crores for a 3 BHK
  • A 4 BHK property found during research was at the price of 6.5 sterling books

North Delhi

  • Model city: 2.5 crore for a 3 BHK
  • North / East Delhi: 1.9 ₹ – 2.5 ₹ Lakh per m²

Faced with unaffordable lists and family pressure, the user has deplored: “I just want to leave Delhi northeast, but buying a property is so difficult now.” Despite the possession of an ancestral house worth more than 2 crosses, the financial burden is looming. “It seems that I will find myself easily with a debt of 1 crore, even if my parents drop the initial amount,” they said, adding: “Going from an entire house to a dish that is worthwhile does not seem fair to me, but Kya Hi Kar Sakte Haan Ab?”

The post attracted a heavy commitment and empathy of other users.

“With all the prices, the high sky, looking from a common point of view, I think it is a long winter to come,” noted a commentator. “If the roupie falls further, we will see even more deviation between income and affordability.”

Another called real estate “the largest scam in India”, citing the brutal gap between the prices of property prices and stagnant wages. “In 2014, Price Flat was 30 Lakh … now 1.4 cr. Fresher salary then was 3 LPA, now 3.5 LPA. Even 40 LPA cannot easily buy flat.”

A third user, disillusioned with life in northeast Delhi, wrote: “Pollution, crime, congestion, traffic and what is not. Delhi is certainly a living hell now. ” They moved to Dehradun and have expressed any regret.

And then came a founded advice: “Paying crores for an apartment after leaving a good ancestral house looks like a degradation … Perhaps try to convince them for Noida / Ghaziabad – better companies, fewer debts and a larger space.”
