“I can’t change the minds of people. Like everything I have to do is go on the field and try to do my best for the club.
“Roy Keane was an incredible captain for the club, one of the best as everyone says. I have not had the chance to see much of him, only in recent years, but he was a great player who has won everything for the club.
“He is massively respected by everyone and has all my respect. He must give his opinion in a program and that is what he thinks of me.
“What I do on the ground to try to change my mind or try to do something that he probably considers a good thing. Obviously, I do it in my own way, I don’t want to copy anyone.
“I try to be the best possible captain for my teammates, I try to help everyone in the best possible way and the best way I know.
“I have a lot to improve, not only as a captain but as a player, as a person, as a human being – and that’s good.
“Criticism will always be part (of the game) and it will make me grow and understand that there is still a long way to go.”
