It seems that Instagram works on a functionality of “community chat” which allows people to organize groups of up to 250 people in the application. Unpublished functionality was spotted by The developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who has a solid history of discovering new features in Meta’s applications.
According to screenshots shared by Paluzzi, it seems that community cats will work in a similar way to Discord. Individual users can train conversations on specific subjects and control which can reach, although there is apparently a limit of 250 people per community.
Unlike Instagram Who allow creators to explode messages to their subscribers, whoever is in community chat can participate in the conversation. There are also integrated moderation features. “Administrators can delete messages and members to ensure the safety of the channel,” explains the screenshot. “We are also reviewing community conversation against our community standards.”
It is not clear when or if, the functionality can be launched. An Instagram spokesperson described it as an internal prototype that is not tested outside the company. But Meta previously published similar features in its other applications. WhatsApp began to experiment with a ““Feature in 2022, and brought” community cats ” And Messenger later the same year. Mark Zuckerberg said It was intended to help people find “a new way of connecting with people who share your interests”.
