The women of Manchester City have dismissed the Manager Gareth Taylor, with the former boss Nick Cushing who returns to take charge on a provisional basis for the rest of the season.

City played in Chelsea in the Ligue Cup final in Wembley on Saturday, but they are outside the places in the Champions League of the Female Super League.

Director General Charlotte O’Neill said on the club’s official website: “Manchester City is proud to participate in the WSL summit and its exceptional qualification history for European competition.

“Unfortunately, the results this season have so far not reached this high level.

“With six WSL campaign games to play, we think that a change in management will breathe new life into our offer to ensure qualification for the UEFA women’s Champions League 2025-26.

“We would like to record our thanks to Gareth for all its efforts during its many years in City. Our triumphs of the FA and the League Cup will remain special moments in the history of this football club. We wish him all the best for the future. »»

The former city striker Taylor was appointed owner of the women’s team in 2020, succeeded Cushing and won the FA Cup that year and the League Cup in 2022.

They were finalists of the WSL last season, ending behind Chelsea on the difference in goals on the last day of the campaign.
