Meta, who owns Facebook, Instagram and Threats, said that she would start to test the functionality on March 18 and that 200,000 potential contributors have registered so far to help assess the precision of the content on her platforms.
The California -based technology giant has said that notes would only be published if they are deemed exact by contributors with a diverse range of points of view.
“We expect the community notes to be less biased than the third -party fact verification program that it replaces and operate on a larger scale when it is fully operational,” said Meta.
“When we launched the fact verification program in 2016, we were clear that we did not want to be the referees of the truth and we thought that turning to organizations of expert facts was the best solution available.”
Meta has said that new feature will be deployed in the United States after beta tests and that it can possibly introduce functionality for all users around the world.
