It was a perfect night for the British teams in the Europa League while Manchester United and Tottenham put disappointing projections at first glance behind them to progress to the last, the Rangers joining them after a dramatic penalty shootout against Fenerbahce.

The penalties were around the evening at Old Trafford, three of which were used in the second stage of United with Real Sociedad. The 10th minute kick of Mikel Oyarzabal put Sociedad 1-0 in the night and 2-1 in advance on the total, only for a pair of penalties by Bruno Fernandes to turn the tie in favor of United.

Jon Aramburu then saw the red in the 63rd minute for a fault on Patrick Dorgu, and United then dominated while Fernandes finished a hat-trick and Diogo Dalot slammed a fourth injury to the house to send the side of Ruben Amorim up to 5-2 on the aggregate.

Tottenham was in control almost throughout the AZ Alkmaar in a performance in contrast completely with their 1-0 defeat in the Netherlands a week earlier.

Wilson Odobert’s first objective for Spurs halfway in the first half and a beautiful effort of the 48th minute of James Maddison gave them the global advance and, although a terrible defense allowed the Koopmein peers to put them briefly, Odobert ended a wonderful move of Tottenham who started in their own half to send men from Postcoglou.

The most intense drama, however, was in Ibrox.

But the hero for rangers

The Rangers had amazed Fenerbahce by Jose Mourinho with an exceptional performance in Istanbul last week, winning a 3-1 victory.

But it seemed that all this good job would be defeated after the Sebastian Szymanski splints leveled the tie on the aggregates, forcing an additional time.

Fenerbahce had the best of an additional time but could not find the goal of finishing the turnaround and, in the middle of a noisy atmosphere of Ibrox, the goalkeeper Jack Butland saved the Rangers.

But Lland saved the first penalty of the shooting, denying Dusan Tadic with her legs. Ianis Hagi had the third penalty of the rangers saved to blur the nerves of the house fans, but for Butland to put the hosts on the edge of the former Manchester United midfielder, Fred.

Tom Lawrence categorically dispatched the subsequent spot kick and Ibrox was sent in rapture when Mert Yandas flambed his high and wide penalty.

Athletic always dream of the San Mamés final

The next step for the Rangers is the team whose stadium will welcome the final in May, Bilbao athletic revolving around a first -stage deficit to see Roma and reach the last eight.

The Roma had led 2-1 of the match at the Stadio Olimpico, but the red card of the 11th minute of Mats Hummels for a fault of Maroan Sannadi put them on the back. Nico Williams took advantage of it with a double on each side of the effort of the 64th minute of Yuri Berchiche, Athletic Bilbao passing by 4-3 on the total after the late consolation of Leandro Parededes from the penalty point.

Hummels then published apologies on social networks, and many Ajax fans can demand the same thing from their players after the Eredivisie giants were beaten 4-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt. Mario Gotze was on the target twice for the winners of 2021-2222 when they filled a global victory 6-2.

Lazio succeeded where Arch Rival Roma failed, passing by 3-2 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw with Viktoria Plzen, Alessio Romagnololi by filling a decisive equalizer of 77th minute. They will face Bodo / Glimt after the Norwegian team increased 4-2 in aggregate despite a 2-1 defeat outside against Olympiacos.

Lyon waits for United after sending FCSB 4-0 and 7-1 to the aggregates.
