Overview of the match for Nottingham Forest against Manchester City

When the fight for a finish among the first four was discussed at the start of the season, no one predicted that it would imply Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.

The forest was to be on the other side of the table while the city was supposed to be a shoo-in given its domination of the Premier League in recent seasons.

And yet, the teams enter the match of tomorrow in third and fourth positions with Forest a point before the quadruple reigning champions.

Nuno Espirito Santo has done a remarkable job at the City Ground, although they have found the little more difficult in recent weeks after winning only one of their last five high-flying games, a 7-0 demolition from Brighton on February 1.

And they once again proven their defensive resilience the last time when they drew 0-0 with Arsenal.

Manchester City had a season that no one expected.

Pep Guardiola suffered injuries to his team for a large part of the campaign and their shape remains extremely inconsistent. They fluctuated between victories and defeats in their last five 5-1 hammering at Arsenal and a 4-0 Victory over Newcastle.

They will have benefited from a rare in the middle of the week because of their elimination from the Champions League, which may have allowed some of their wounded on foot.

Team news for Nottingham Forest against Manchester City

Nuno was Cagey when he was asked for his team before the match, simply saying that he would “assess” the players in advance, but we don’t think they have new concerns. He is likely to remember Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson, who were rested for the FA Cup link with Ipswich.

Several of the great City players were also rested for the FA Cup victory last weekend against Plymouth at Etihad, so Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Omar Marmoush and Josko Gvardiol should be fresh.

Nathan Ake underwent surgery on a fractured foot during the week after having aggravated it against Plymouth. The Dutch international will miss the rest of the season.

His colleagues John Stones centers and Manuel Akanji are also missing until April, so the new signatures Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are likely to be involved.
