Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho said his team deserves to win after being eliminated from the Europa League during sanctions to the Rangers.

Goals in every half of the 90 minutes of Sebastian Szymanski had wiped out the Rangers in advance in the first step and in more time.

Jack Butland then saved two spot kicks while the local team won a quarter -final against Athletic Bilbao.

Mourinho said that his current team was the only team to win.

He said, “We played a fantastic match. Only one team played, only one team scored, only one team deserved to score more, only one team deserved to win.

“Only one team [should have] Had three penalties if you don’t get three of them, you get two. If you don’t have two, you have one. If you don’t get one in three, everything is strange.

“But it is also strange the way we were eliminated from the Champions League with a Var penalty on the minute 120.”

Mourinho then referred to the previous controversy, when he spoke of the final defeat of the Europa League from his Roma team in 2023 by Seville, after which he received a ban on four games for his criticism from the English referee Anthony Taylor.

Mourinho said: “The only thing that is still in mind is so everything that happened to my team this season in Europe, if that has something to do with the Budapest final.

“I want to think that it has nothing to do with that, it’s just bad luck, and nothing has to do with that. I want to think that way.

The acting manager of the Rangers, Barry Ferguson, congratulated his team for keeping his head despite the loss of the night.

He said, “I actually thought we were playing well. The two goals that we could have done better, but the only thing I have to say, and it was upgraded against the players, they showed character.

“It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself but they have continued. And obviously, you are entering the situation of the sanctions and I thought we had managed it very well.

“The main objective was to make sure that I brought this club into the last eight and that is something we have done.

“Do not underestimate what happened there. We faced a high -level team. I did not know last Thursday that it was by no means an agreement made.

“They continued to drive and we showed a little courage.

“I told them, maybe some people will now start to think that these guys have something about them. And it was one of my goals when I got to take the job. »»
