Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, recalls more than 63,000 Jeep Cherokee Due to problems with power transfer units (PTU) of vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall concerns the Jeep Cherokee model years between 2017 and 2019.
“The power transfer unit (PTU) can be damaged and disengage the transmission and the differential, resulting in a loss of motor power and/or a loss of the parking function,” explains the NHTSA website.
According to the NHTSA, not only can a loss of motor power make accidents more likely, but the loss of a parking function “can cause an involuntary movement of the vehicle, which can increase the risk of accident or injury”.
