Singer Michelle Williams is used to sharing her name – even making fun of it sometimes.
The Broadway star, 45, posted via Instagram Story on Sunday, December 22, showing an instance where someone mistook her for the actress Michelle Williams.
The former Destiny’s Child member, currently starring in the musical adaptation of the 1992 film Death suits him on Broadway, posted a photo of the letters she received, alongside a few photos – of the bad Michelle Williams.
“Fan Mail😂🥴,” she captioned the photo, which showed a letter addressed to Ms. Williams, along with two photos of The greatest showman actress, 44 years old.
She then posted again on her Instagram story: “I found out that when she was on Broadway in Cabaretshe had also received a letter with my photos! This makes me happy! 😂❤”
This isn’t the first time the “Say Yes” singer has commented on fans confusing her with the actress of the same name.
After actress Williams received an Emmy in 2019 for her role as Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdonsinger Williams said she received several comments from confused fans.
“How come when you tag and compliment a person, do you all see that I’m black? » said the singer via an Instagram Live. “When you go to my profile you search for ‘Michelle Williams,’ I’m black. ALL RIGHT? I am not mixed with anything; I’m not mixed with Persian, Russian, I’m black.
During her Emmy Awards speech, actress Williams spoke about equal pay in the industry, for which singer Williams said she received criticism online.
“I’m trying to figure out, ‘Why the hell am I being cursed in my comments on Michelle Williams’ speech?’ what I thought was his truth. I thought it was great,” she said. “I thought she was being factual – I could be wrong. But yeah, I just told this woman a few minutes ago on my Instagram, I said to him: ‘I’m really sorry that my namesake upset you, but can’t you see that I’m black?’
The “Lose My Breath” singer made it clear she supports The Fablemans speech of the actress.
“She was beautiful. She was brilliant. Honey, she played Gwen Verdon to a T. She was great,” she said. “Now do it right and stop insulting me.”
The Venom actress has also previously commented on their name mix-ups. In a interview with Huffpost published in 2018, the actress commented on the fact that Google’s search function displayed her photo when someone searched for “the five members of destiny’s child.”
“This brings me a little closer to Beyoncéso I’m pretty good with that,” the actress said at the time. “Now I’ll have an icebreaker if I ever meet Beyoncé. I’m going to tell him about the good old days of Destiny’s Child. So thank you because I’ll obviously be speechless if and when that ever happens, and now I’ll know exactly what to say.
