Parma named the former Ajax, the Roma and the defender Cristian Chivu as a new manager.

The former Romania International, 44, replaces Fabio Pecchia who had been in charge since 2022 and led Parma to the promotion of Serie B at the end of last season.

Chivu previously trained youth teams at Inter Milan, the club where he ended his player career between 2018 and 2024.

Parma separated from Pecchia on Monday after a fourth consecutive defeat maintained the club in the relegation area.

“Chivu, alongside its staff made up of Antonio Gagliardi (Deputy Director), Angelo Palombo (Technical Assistant) and Nicola Pavarini (goalkeeper coach), will begin to train with the team since this after -Midi to Mutti Training Center, “said Parma in a declaration.

The first Chivu match in charge will be a home game against Bologna on Sunday. Parma is 18th in Serie A on 20 points after 25 games, but are only a point of the 17th century side, outside the relegation places.
