The head of the minority of the Hakeem Jeffries room, DN.Y., noted that he was planning to attend the president Donald Trump Tuesday evening address before a joint session of the congress.
“Given my responsibilities in the House, I plan to attend the speech, as well as other members of Democratic leadership, to specify to the nation that there is a strong ready opposition party, disposed and capable of serving as a check and balance on the excesses of the administration,” said Jeffries in a message to colleagues.
Trump’s speech will come less than two months in his Second presidential term.

“The decision to attend the joint session is personal and we understand that members will come to different conclusions,” noted Jeffries.
“However, it is important to have a strong democratic presence, determined and worthy in the chamber. The room as an institution belongs to the American people, and as representatives, we will not be run from the block or intimidated,” he continued.
Some Democratic legislators have announced that they would jump for the event.
