Jean Amos died in August, but by the time his son Kelly Christophe announced his death, it had been more than a month. Since then, the actor’s daughter, Shannon Amosopened an investigation into his death and hired a lawyer to fight his fight.
“The family deserves to know the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Amos’ care and the events leading up to his death,” Shannon Amos’ attorney was quoted as saying in a statement. “We are committed to exploring all avenues available to ensure these questions are answered.” »
But Kelly says there’s no need for war, and a private investigator said there were no signs of “foul play” in the actor’s death. Here’s the she-said between the siblings and what’s been reported about the family conflict.
KC Amos responds to his sister’s abuse allegations
As previously noted, K.C. revealed the death on October 1, but his father had died on August 21. Additionally, he said the “Good Times” actor died of congestive heart failure in Los Angeles. He was 84 years old.
Shannon’s attorney, James H. Davis III, confirmed that she had hired legal help to investigate her father’s death, according to PEOPLE. She outright accused her brother of elder abuse, apparently for the second time. Shannon reportedly wanted more information about her father’s admission to Centinela Hospital and his condition at the time. She claimed someone pretending to be her dropped John off at the hospital. Shannon says she requested his medical records in three formal requests, but got no response.
Additionally, she wants the LAPD and Adult Protective Services to provide summaries of their investigations into her past allegations of abuse involving John Amos.
Meanwhile, Kelly Christopher doesn’t hesitate to silence her sister’s complaints with her own receipts! He provided an explanation to PEOPLE on decisions made before the death of John Amos. He claimed John requested to go to Centinela Hospital because of his trust in its medical staff. Additionally, he said his father asked him not to contact other members of his family, and KC said he “honored his request.”
“Let me be clear and transparent. There was no physical, financial, emotional or psychological abuse or neglect of my father by me, Gene Brummett or Belinda Foster,” KC said. “This was documented by an independent investigation conducted by Homeland Security Services, Inc, Adult Protective Services and other law enforcement agencies. The reality is that he died of natural causes at the age of 84. Stop making it more than it is.
Kelly also hired a defense investigator to conduct an “in-depth two-year investigation” into financial discrepancies, including missing money and material possessions stolen from her father in Colorado, Memphis, New Jersey and Los Angeles. Ultimately, the investigator, Kevin Faler, said all charges against Kelly Christopher in New Jersey were dismissed.
“The current allegations regarding unfair acts and elder abuse are frivolous,” said Kevin Faler. “John Amos was happy to work and spend time with [K.C., Gene, and Belinda] write, produce and pray with them as a family and as a team. John died of natural causes at the age of 84. There was no foul play.
Faler also cleared John Amos’ longtime manager, Belinda Foster, of any wrongdoing. “John told me that Belinda was more of a daughter to him than his own biological daughter” the investigator told PEOPLE.
His daughter once questioned John Amos’ safety
Shannon Amos’ death comes more than a year after she claimed her father was the victim of abuse and financial exploitation and was hospitalized in critical condition. She made the allegations during a GoFundMe campaign, claiming John called her from the hospital in Memphis. Shannon did not say who was carrying out the alleged abuse, but claimed one of the people was a caregiver. His GoFundMe campaign sought $500,000 for alleged legal fees, treatment and aftercare.
But John Amos later denied his daughter’s abuse allegations in a video message from his hospital bed. The actor cited confusion over the fundraising. He also seemed to suggest that if anyone were to abuse him, it would be Shannon. He said they had had problems before he was hospitalized, claiming his daughter took advantage of him.
“She would be the prime suspect, if you wanted her to be.” » said John. “I don’t know if that’s the right term to use or not. But it is to her that I would attribute my abuse towards the elderly. This is undoubtedly a case of elder abuse.
Additionally, his manager Belinda said his hospitalization was due to heart problems caused by fluid filling his lower body and abdomen. However, they both denied that his medical problems were life-threatening.
Shannon Amos has not publicly responded to her brother’s response to her inquiry.
