The Newcastle United defender and England Dan Burn revealed how successful compartmentalization was crucial to produce a man of the match performance in the last days of the EFL Cup after receiving his first call for the three Lions.

Burn was selected from the first team in England of Thomas Tuchel last Friday at the age of 32, two days before the Newcastle conflict with Liverpool.

The central rear was imperative while Newcastle ended their expectations of 70 years for a domestic trophy and 56 years of waiting for a major trophy of all kinds, with a 2-1 victory against the leaders of the Premier League.

Burn directed Newcastle in front just before half-time and played a decisive role to ensure that the Magpies kept their lead after Alexander Isak put them 2-0 in front.

The local hero of Newcastle did not have the opportunity to party too hard, Burn arriving at the camp of England in St George’s Park on Monday while they are preparing to face Albania and Latvia.

In an interview published on the social networks of the England team, Burn was invited to know how he had kept his goal in a week of whirlwind.

Burn said: “It was difficult, I just had to put the thing from England in a box for a while, just in a way to focus on the final, but the second when the final was finished, my goal has changed.”

Initially published by Newcastle at the age of 11, Burn began his professional career with Darlington before joining Fulham, taking loan spells at Yeovil Town and Birmingham City before moving to join Wigan Athletic, then Brighton and Hove Albion.

He left Brighton to return to Newcastle in January 2022, and Burn identified the resilience he showed in a career that saw him play in each of the best levels of English football as a key to having a late chance to impress internationally.

“”[I’m] Very grateful for the opportunity of the director and the staff and I just want to grasp it, ”added Burn.

“It is not a very straight line my career, it was a lot of ups and downs, but I think it made us quite resistant.

“I always felt that I had the ability to play at this level, but it is simply a question of receiving the opportunities, so I try to repay the faith that the manager has shown.”
