‘Allow slower work pace, flexible schedules’: Labour ministry writes to states to safeguard workers against heatwave

With temperatures that planned in almost all regions of the country, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has written to the States and territories of the Union asking them to take urgent measures to protect workers and workers from extreme heat conditions.

The Ministry of Labor has also indicated that instructions are issued to mine and factory managers to allow a slower work rate, flexible schedules, teams of two people during extreme heat, appropriate ventilation in underground mines.

“In addition to factories and mines, he insisted on a particular attention to pay for construction and brick oven workers and the need for a general dissemination of information to workers on the means of protecting themselves from extreme heat conditions through awareness camps, posters and banners at Labor Chowks,” said the press release.

Hospitals and dispensaries under DGLW and ESIC have also been invited to create dedicated offices to take care of heat stroke cases and ensure adequate supply of gold, ice packs and other heat disease prevention materials.
