There are no reported injuries. Air traffic has been briefly interrupted as a precaution, but operations have since taken up.
Frederick W. Smith, founder and former executive president of Fedex, Died on Saturday, the company announced. He was 80 years old.
“Fred was more than the pioneer of an industry and the founder of our great company. He was the heart and soul of Fedex-his culture, his values, his integrity and his PSP spirit,” said a message to the employees of Fedex of CEP Raj Subramaniam, referring to the philosophy of the company of “service-service-service”.
Smith has been described as “a mentor for many” and “source of inspiration for all”.
He graduated from Yale in 1966 and served four years in the Marine Corps, which included two service tours in Vietnam, before launching the original “federal network, which began its operations in 1973”, according to the Association of the Marine Corps.

Fedex officially launched with 389 team members and 14 small planes that made 186 Memphis packages at 25 American cities, according to Reuters.
Smith has recently been the executive president of the company and concentrated the governance of the board of directors, as well as questions of global importance, in particular sustainability, innovation and public policies, according to his profile on the Fedex website.

He withdrew in 2022 and was replaced by Subramaniam, who was then the operations manager of the company, reported Reuters.
“While we are starting to treat this enormous loss, it is important that we take care of each other and demonstrate the passion and compassion that Fred embodies every day. In the coming days and weeks, I know that we will all find ways to honor his memory and pay tribute to his inheritance,” concluded Subramaniam’s message to society.

Fedex operations now include 705 aircraft, more than 200,000 vehicles and around 5,000 operating facilities, according to its website. More than 500,000 employees worldwide manage approximately 17 million shipping Every day in Fedex.

“I asked him twice to serve as a defense secretary, and he refused only twice because of his devotion to his family. Laura and I send our condolences to the beloved children and grandchildren of Fred and his wife, Diane,” said Bush.
