Cognizant to invest Rs 1,583 crore in Visakhapatnam campus, create 8,000 jobs by 2029

The global giant of IT and professional services, Cognizant, has announced a major expansion of its operations in India, with plans to build a campus of 1,583 crore from ₹ to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Distributed over 22 acres at Kapulupada It Hills, the installation will be developed in three phases, creating more than 8,000 jobs and further strengthening the digital transformation of the company and AI delivery capacities for global customers.

The announcement comes as a result of the approval of the firm of Andhra Pradesh, led by the chief minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu. Cognizant will start operations at the beginning of 2026 from a temporary configuration with a capacity of 800 partners, before the end of phase 1 of the permanent campus by the beginning of 2029.

Sri Nara Lokesh, Minister of IT, Electronics and Communication, Human Resources Development and RTG, praised the announcement: “We are delighted to welcome Cognizant to Visakhapatnam, who aligned ourselves with our vision of building Andhra Pradesh as a destination for the first world companies.”

He added: “The presence of cognizant will further accelerate the digital economy of the region while stimulating the technological skills necessary for the workforce of the future.”

Ravi Kumar S, CEO of cognizant, described The Move an “important step” in the growth course of India of the company.
“With its abundant basin of talents and its robust infrastructure, Visakhapatnam is a solid partner in our mission to develop the digital workforce of tomorrow, especially in level 2 cities of India,” he said.

The expansion of cognizant in Andhra Pradesh arrives in the heels of new delivery centers launched since 2024 in Bhubaneswar, Indore, and a technical center in Gift City, Gujarat – all designed to support the agility, collaboration and new generation skills.

India remains the cornerstone of global cognizant operations, with more than 70% of its 336,300 employees based in the country. The installation of Visakhapatnam adds to its vast network through Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and other cities.
