Rangers goalkeeper and vice-captain Jack Butland will miss the Old Firm clash against Celtic on Thursday after being admitted to hospital, the club have confirmed.

It was revealed that the 31-year-old former Stoke City and Crystal Palace goalkeeper was suffering from internal bleeding in his leg which required medical attention.

Butland has since been released from hospital but will miss the game against Celtic at Ibrox.

Captain James Tavernier will also miss out due to injury, while right-back Neraysho Kasanwirjo Leon Balogun is also expected to miss the match.

“We are going to lose Tavernier. He was injured at the end of the match. He had a scan and there is a small injury and he will be out for a few weeks,” said manager Philippe Clément.

The Rangers have had a disappointing season so far. The 55-time Scottish league champions are 14 points behind leaders Celtic and have failed to win either of their last two games.

Clement’s side have fared slightly better in the Europa League this season, winning three, drawing two and losing one of their six games, leaving them eighth in the 36-team table.
