Whether it’s old Walkman laptops and Trinitron TVs, or 21st-century PlayStation consoles, Alpha cameras, and superlative headphones, Sony has long been a CES mainstay. But for several years, during the world’s largest electronics show, Sony has chosen to focus on another area: automobiles. The Afeela EV dominated Sony’s 2023 and 2024 CES press conferences, and we know this trend will continue in 2025, with an appearance at the Sony event (and a follow-up press conference) already confirmed.
What to expect at Sony’s CES 2025 press conference
The Afeela is the first product from Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between the Japanese electronics and transportation giants. After a surprise deployment at CES 2023Sony’s CES presser provided additional details about the EV’s LiDAR sensor array and AI-enhanced cabin technology (the latter coming with help from Microsoft) at CES 2024. If the car’s previously announced programming milestones – pre-orders in 2025 ahead of availability in 2026 – remain intact, we hope to learn which of the intricacies of Afeela’s concept car will actually do the trick once they hit the streets of the real world.
Of course, it won’t be Afeela in Vegas all the time. Expect Sony to spend some time talking about its imaging, its games, or maybe even its movie studio division. And hopefully we’ll get more information about the company XR helmetwhich was presented at the 2024 show, never to be seen again. CES 2025 would be the perfect place to showcase a significant update to a possible competitor to the Apple Vision Pro.
