Ben Stiller Reveals ‘Severance’ Opening Scene Took Six Months To Film

For an opening scene that seems pretty smooth, Ben Stiller revealed that “Severance” season 2 was the result of months of work.

After ending the first season on a huge cliffhanger, the drama series returned after almost three years to a two-minute sequence that appears to take place in a single take. However, the reality was anything but smooth.

Many fans were wondering where season two would pick up, and it began with plans to Adam ScottMark’s character sprints through the halls of Lumon. Even though it looks like it took a few minutes to film, the reality is that they shot it in several different parts over the course of a few months and then put it all together.

“It was actually filmed in several different parts,” Stiller said. CinemaBlend after the premiere of the show. “I think there were about 10 different pieces, and each piece usually had a different piece of equipment to make it, whatever piece we needed. But actually it was also shot over a period of probably five or six months, when we had different sections of the set ready.

With three years to speculate, fans had three years to try to figure out how the series would return. However, none of them could predict that the season would start with Mark running through the halls.

Stiller said the decision “all grew out of this idea, really, that when Adam and I talked about the season opener, you know, that momentum that Mark would have to run and figure out what was going on in depending on what was happening. he has just learned this news.

The scene was technically difficult to shoot, as the “Museum Night” star explained how they used a “bolt arm” to capture his movements. He said the swinging arm was actually “very dangerous” and “a little scary” for everyone involved.

“But making it was a really fun puzzle that all of our department heads collaborated on,” he continued. “And, you know, it was one of those things that took a really long time to finish, and when we got to the end, we were like, ‘We’re done with this shot.’ I think we even had a wrap party for the shoot.

Even though Stiller was focused on the safety of using the articulated arm to film the scenes, actor Adam Scott was concerned about maintaining his endurance for all those months. He joked that he consumed a lot of Gatorade to run for that long, even though the scenes were filmed weeks or even months apart.

“Like Ben said, it took five or six months to get over it,” he recalls. CinemaBlend. “And every time I thought we were done with the opening sequence, someone would say, ‘Okay, so for next week, what color Gatorade is your favorite?’ [I’d] say, “Oh, my God, are there still people running?” It’s like, ‘Yeah, there’s another part.'”

He admitted he was “exhausted” when he finally finished filming all his racing scenes, but looking back he thought the process was “super fun”.

In an interview with Weekly Entertainmentcreator, writer and executive producer Dan Erickson has admitted to reading the “wild” fan theories that appear on Reddit. However, he revealed that no one has been able to guess everything correctly…at least, not yet.

“I love them all and some of them are crazy, but the show is crazy, so it makes sense,” he said. “I wouldn’t say I’ve seen anyone be completely right.”

“We’re trying to lay the groundwork for where this will ultimately go, and I think people are noticing that. “They said that in Episode 2, and so I bet it’s going to pay off that way,’ and sometimes that kind of fits with what we’re doing,” he continued. “But I don’t think having seen anything where I’m like, ‘Oh my God, they got it.’ It’s time to leave the country and change your name.'”

Season 2 of “Severance” premiered Friday, January 17 on Apple TV+.
