Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has described racist chants directed at Alejandro Balde by Getafe fans as “unbelievable” and “completely false”.
The young left-back was subjected to abuse during the first half of the clash in the Spanish capital, prompting him to approach the referee to inform him of what had been said.
Balde told reporters after the match finished 1-1: “Today I received racist insults, I don’t think that continues to happen.
“It was in the first half, I warned the referee about the racist insults and he activated the protocol and in the second half there were no more.
Flick was asked his reaction to the situation when he spoke to the media, and the former Bayern Munich The German coach naturally stood by his player and called for action to be taken against the individuals responsible.
“There is no place for that in football or in life. It’s incredible,” Flick said. “In the times we live in now, this is completely wrong. Those who do this should stay at home, I think we should fight them, that’s the best thing.
“But the people around them can also do something because it’s unfair. That’s not the respect we want to live with, I think everyone can do something.”
BarcelonaThe Madrid manager also spoke of another disappointing result in La Liga, failing to capitalize on Atletico Madrid’s surprise defeat to Leganes on Friday night. There was more bad news on Sunday as Clasico rivals Real Madrid beat Las Palmas 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to regain first place from Atleti, seven points ahead of third-placed Barça.
“I’m not worried. I’m aware of the situation, I know we’ve lost a lot of points in the last few games, that’s not what we want and we can do a lot better,” Flick said. “But in the end you can see that we started the season very well, in the new year, and I am happy with that.
“But now we have to show it. We have to show it in Lisbon because it’s a very important match. Winning three points there means we are through to the next round. That’s what we want, but we We need to play a lot better.”
