The House of Black has been a dominant faction since its inception in AEW. The group won the Trios Championships and terrorized the locker room. However, things aren’t looking good for the group, especially with rumors that one of the members might be leaving AEW.
Malakai Black is the leader of the House of Black. He first formed the group with Brody King and Buddy Matthews before adding Julia Hart to their ranks. At first, the group found success within the company, but last year, fans were left wanting more. Due to their lackluster booking, fans believed Malakai Black might leave the company following his loss to Adam Cole on the November 6 episode of Dynamite.
However, Black denied these rumors and even blasted fans for believing misinformation. Despite denying these rumors, Black hasn’t stepped foot in the ring since Full Gear 2024, which has raised many eyebrows.
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Newsletter even reported that people inside Tony Khan’s company think he left the promotion. Therefore, it’s entirely possible that AEW will book an angle in which Malakai Black is attacked by his stablemates, effectively writing him off television as he leaves the promotion. The basis for the attack could be that the group has accomplished nothing in recent months under Black’s leadership and has appeared weak compared to other factions.
Buddy Matthews Teased His Departure From The House Of Black After AEW Dynamite Loss
Buddy Matthews has been a part of the House of Black since the beginning of its AEW run. He has put on some incredible matches during his tenure in the company and despite his incredible skills, he is still considered an acolyte of Black.
This week on Dynamite, Buddy Matthews faced Will Ospreay and came up short. After the match, Ospreay cut a promo and said that Buddy and King didn’t need to follow a leader, referencing Malakai Black. After Dynamite went off the air, Matthews cut an exclusive promo saying Ospreay’s words didn’t fall on deaf ears.
“2024 is in the books, 2025 is now, and it’s upon us, and I haven’t started my 2025 like I hoped. Especially before the Grand Slam in Australia next month, but for years, Will heard my name, and for years I heard Will’s Tonight, these names came together, and Will, even though you put a hiccup in my 2025, your words tonight don’t. have not gone deaf,” Matthews said.
It will be interesting to see if this could be the beginning of the end of the House of Blacks.
