EA’s Origin PC client has officially reached the end of the line. The gaming company had already announced its intention to the Origin app for desktop gamers in 2020 and started the new EA app in 2022. However, Origin will be completely shut down on April 17, 2025, as Microsoft ends support for 32-bit software. Anyone still using Origin will need to upgrade to the EA app before then.

For PC gamers who haven’t migrated to the EA app, the company offers a explaining the latest system requirements. The EA app runs on a 64-bit architecture and requires a machine running Windows 10 or Windows 11. (Although Microsoft would really prefer that everyone upgrades to Windows 11 gradually the previous operating system.)

If you simply download the EA app on a current machine, players won’t need to redownload their games. And if cloud backups are enabled, all your data should be transferred without any additional steps. However, it’s still a good idea to have physical saves with this type of transition, especially since not all games support cloud saves and these titles will need to have game data saved transferred manually. Mods may also not automatically make the change, and EA recommends players check with mod creators about transferring to the EA app.
