AC Milan confirmed this morning the dismissal of head coach Paulo Fonseca after six months in the role.

The Portuguese claimed he had been fired as he left San Siro after the 1-1 draw with Roma on Sunday evening and the club’s official announcement came hours later.

Milan are expected to appoint Sergio Conceicao as his replacement.

A club statement read: “AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been dismissed as head coach of the men’s first team. The Club expresses its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the best in his future projects.

The weekend’s stalemate leaves the Rossoneri eighth in the Serie A table, 14 points behind co-leaders Atalanta and Napoli.

Fonseca coached Milan for 24 matches in total, winning only 12, the highlight being a 3–1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Conceicao has extensive Serie A experience having played for Lazio, Parma and Inter. He left his post as Porto coach in June.
