You may have heard of adrenal cocktails and seen this “trendy” drink pop up on Instagram. Drinking an adrenal cocktail can help with stress and more, and I’m explaining it in today’s article!
Hello friends! I hope you have a wonderful week. For today’s article, I’m super pumped to dive into today’s topic: the adrenal cocktail. This has been lighting up my social media feed lately, so let’s talk about this intriguing concoction and the benefits of an adrenal cocktail! Picture this: a delicious blend of refreshing coconut water (or aloe vera juice), tangy orange juice, and a pinch of salt.
Now you may be wondering what this is all about. Well, it all comes down to our energy levels, chronic stress, and something called adrenal fatigue. You see, our adrenal glands play a key role in managing stress and maintaining our overall well-being. But sometimes these little gland warriors can get a little tired, leading to low energy and a case of adrenal fatigue.
This is where the magical blend of orange juice, coconut water and sea salt comes in to save the day! This dream team combination is thought to support adrenal function and give our blood sugar levels a much-needed boost. Orange juice is full of vitamin C, which acts like a superhero for our immune system. Coconut water brings hydration to the party, replenishing those electrolytes like a champ. Finally, a pinch of sea salt adds a tasty touch and provides essential minerals that keep our adrenal glands dancing happily.
Now, it’s important to note that there are tons of variations of the adrenal cocktail. Some people like to add a squeeze of lemon juice or even a pinch of cinnamon for an extra boost. Don’t hesitate to experiment and make it your own!
I contacted Mia to discuss it on the blog and she co-wrote this article!
Adrenal Cocktail Recipe and Why You Should Try It
So, what is an adrenal cocktail?
An adrenal cocktail includes a mixture of potassium, sodium, and vitamin C. Now, when it comes to adrenal cocktails, some people like to get a little adventurous with their mixtures. Picture this: a delicious blend of potassium, sodium and vitamin C, but with a creamy twist. That’s right, we’re talking about adding a little coconut cream to the mix. It’s like going from a regular workout to a real dance party for your taste buds!
But wait, there’s more! If coconut cream isn’t your jam, why not try coconut milk? This silky, slightly sweet alternative can give your adrenal cocktail a tropical vacation vibe. Just imagine sipping your coconut-infused elixir and feeling those stress-relieving benefits wash over you like waves on a sandy beach. Ah, heaven in a glass!
This may be helpful in your routine if you:
- Are tired all the time and lethargic
- Stressed and looking for that extra caffeine to get you through the day
- You have sleep problems and suffer from “tired but nervous” syndrome
Just know that you’re not alone if you’re experiencing these things and we have (some) answers to potentially help you dig yourself out of this hole.
So, what are the adrenals?
The adrenals sit just above both kidneys. These small glands produce hormones that regulate your stress response, metabolism, glucose, blood pressure and immune system. When they are imposed, the rest of you tank. The body needs homeostasis and balance. It’s also very good at adapting, so if you’re stressed in one area, it will downregulate in another area to compensate for what it needs to use to keep you alive and functioning.
- Example: your cycle lengthens or your period disappears when you are on a work deadline or when you are very stressed + too much exercise + not enough food = the body says “Reproduction is not a priority right now, so we can skip ovulation this month.”
When it comes to keeping our bodies in balance, let’s not forget about our hard-working adrenals. These tiny glands, located above our kidneys like adorable little hats, play an essential role in balancing hormones and ensuring the proper functioning of our internal system.
Now here’s a fun fact: did you know that adding healthy fats to our diet can support our adrenal health? Yeah, it’s true! Foods like avocado, nuts, and olive oil are like a nourishing high-five for our adrenals, helping them function at their best and keep our hormonal harmony in check.
In order to provide the best balance to our body, regulate blood sugar, improve metabolic flexibility and increase insulin sensitivity, we must support it!
But how to do this?
One small way is to add a small drink called an adrenal cocktail. It provides essential vitamins and minerals, especially potassium, sodium and complete vitamin C, not ascorbic acid.
Adrenal Cocktail Recipe
Each “Adrenal Cocktail” recipe should provide approximately:
- 375 mg of potassium (ATP, electrolytes)
- 460 mg sodium (electrolytes, blood pressure and energy)
- 60 mg of complete vitamin C (our adrenals need more in times of stress and carbohydrate source)
Adrenal cocktails can be a mixture of orange juice, coconut water, salt and/or cream of tartar. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, why not sprinkle a spoonful of collagen powder? It’s like an invisible superhero rushing to support your joints, hair, nails and skin – giving you an extra boost for a truly magnificent workout!
Some of my favorite recipes that are precise and help satisfy many people can be found here. I ordered Redmond sea salt from Thriving market <— my link allows you to benefit from 40% off your first order. I also like the work of Morley Robbins and you can download its free PDF.
When should you drink an adrenal cocktail?
- For breakfast! If you don’t like “breakfast” and the thought of stomach eating makes you green or if you generally fast intermittently and drink caffeine all morning, this drink is a great way to revive your metabolism and stoke the fire.
- When energy is low around 10 a.m. and between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
- Before bed if you usually wake up between 2 and 4 a.m. and can’t get back to sleep
- Before or after training
Tantalize your taste buds with a boost of health and flavor thanks to adrenal cocktails!
There you have it, my fitness enthusiast friends! Adrenal cocktails are not simple pick-me-up drinks, oh no! They are the secret weapon for keeping blood sugar regulated and feeling as energetic as a kangaroo on a trampoline. Not to mention they taste like orange ice cream, which is basically an explosion of flavors in your mouth that would make Willy Wonka jealous. These delicious concoctions are packed with the nutrients your body needs, from vitamin C to electrolytes, giving you a boost of vitality while pleasing your taste buds.
So the next time you need a sweet and tangy treat that will do your body good, whip up an adrenal cocktail and prepare to feel like a superhero with a straw. Trust me, your taste buds and energy levels will thank you! Cheers to good health and mouth-watering flavors!
