Liverpool defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, will miss the final of the League Cup this weekend against Newcastle, but will return before the end of the season.

The right back was not appointed to the first team in England of Thomas Tuchel on Friday morning and the manager Arne Slot confirmed that he had an ankle injury.

The 26 -year -old was injured in the second half of the Champions League outing in Paris St Germain and his absence left a recognized right -up location with Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez too.

“Trent is not available. He will not be there in the final, “said Slot.

“But he still has to be assessed for how long it will take, but we expect him to come back before the end of the season.”

Alexander -Arnold is one of the three major players of Liverpool out of contract at the end of the season – alongside Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk.

Van Dijk said in the middle of the week that he did not know if he would be at the club next season. Slot said: “The only thing I know is that I want Virgil to be here next season, and everything else, these are talking about contracts, that’s not what I do here.

“If we win or lose the final, there will be a disappointment, but we really delight the final, because you cannot take a final for acquired, especially not in this country with so many good teams involved in each cup competition.

“So we look forward to it that we are part of it, and if you are part of it, of course, you want and try to win it. But that’s probably what Newcastle wants too. “”
