Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron could leave the club before the transfer date, explains manager Eddie Howe.

Almiron was a key player for Newcastle since his arrival from the American club Atlanta six years ago, but fell into hierarchical order, scoring the last goal in December 2023.

The 30 -year -old was linked to a return to MLS and almost joined a Saudi club last summer.

Howe said: “I think Miggy’s head was very, very securely here. He was brilliant in training this week and I did not see a single moment when I thought oh, I have to attack this or speak to him or have a deeper conversation.

“I think we are both aware of the situation. Yes, there is an interest in him other clubs. There is potentially a chance that he can leave before the window, but until this moment, and if that moment never arises, he is always a precious member of the team.

“We love him in pieces, he has a great energy and a great character that has never changed for a second,” was the ultimate professional. And let’s see what’s going on.

Newcastle was deeply beaten by Bournemouth last weekend to definitively finish his long sequence of victories.

Howe says that striker Callum Wilson is close to a return, while goalkeeper Nick Pope could be on the team to face Southampton on Saturday.

He said, “It is too early for Callum. Callum is always on the right track to be returned from the beginning of February.

“He makes good progress. We try to do the right things with him and make sure that he is quite robust and has all the work behind him and loads him behind him before starting to train with the group.

“But it seems very positive. What a massive player would be to welcome again.

“There is a chance that Nick will be on the team. He started to train with the group again and it’s great to see Nick again and his presence, his positivity he brings.

“I saw him do very good things this week, so yes, delighted to put it back in the mix.”
