Apple works to add Apple Watch cameras over the next two years to allow artificial intelligence features such as Apple IntelligenceAccording to a report Sunday by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.
The company is currently placing the addition of cameras to its standard standard watches and ultra models by 2027, according to Gurman, an Apple commentator with a reliable assessment. The report comes as smartphones manufacturers like Apple, Google and Samsung emphasize AI’s features in their last devices.
“The current idea is to put the camera inside the display of the version of the series, such as the frontal objective on the iPhone,” wrote Gurman in his Weekly newsletter. The objective of the camera on the Ultra would have a slightly different placement, seated on the side of the watch near the crown and the button, he wrote.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Apple Intelligence, which made its debut with the iOS 18.1 update in October, offers a visual research tool that can help identify the objects and places around you and surface all the relevant information.
Gurman reported in December that Apple explored the possibility of adding temperature sensors and other physiological measurements to the AirPods. Him and him and Apple Ming-Chi Kuo analyst also pointed out that Apple worked on Adding infrared cameras to future AirPods by 2026.
IR cameras could be used in several ways. The report details that they could be used to detect hand gestures in the air, work with devices like Apple Vision Pro to improve space audio or detect environmental changes for software, including the new Apple Intelligence.
