‘Appraisal officer demands 7 L bribe’: Importer exposes Chennai Customs corruption, releases audio recordings with officer

A tweet of an importer based in Chennai exhibiting a request for a brown pot of 7 Lakh-Ripee by customs officials aroused generalized online outrage. Prawin Ganeshan went to X (formerly Twitter) to share his test, revealing how his expedition from China was stuck for more than 72 hours due to a request for bribes which allegedly facilitated by an agent Named Sridhar.

“The evaluation officer requests a 7 L-brothers-in-law for my shipment via his Sidhar, Cha @ Chennai. Faceless evaluation, however they have agents to demand from the bribe like this of importers, “wrote Ganeshan, marking Chennai’s customs, the Central Council for Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Minister of Finances Nirmala Sitharaman.

Ganeshan detailed that it was his first import of imported products from China. He said that after a question concerning his last three bills (BOE) for similar products, the customs agent demanded a bridge pot with a value of two to three times the value of the Shipping, citing the goods’ import program (SIIB) as a reason.

Chennai Customs replied, asking Ganeshan to provide details of his dispatch for a more in -depth investigation. Ganeshan later confirmed that he had shared the entry number and added: “I have audio recordings of Cha and the agent of the evaluation agent requiring a ruthless 7 -lakh for having cleaned the project of law.”

In a separate article, he even shared a video with audio recording with the customs agent. He wrote: “I do not do any baseless allegation without proof, this person Sridhar well known in COUCLE Circle as an agent to collect a jar my expedition.

The position has become viral, amazing more than 3.4 Lakh in views and 45,000 likes, several users sharing their corruption experiences in customs procedures.

Others have told similar incidents, a user declaring that they had to pay 5,000 rupees instead of 500 to activate their ICEGATE identifier, while another said to pay browsing to erase chemicals for export despite the presentation of appropriate documents.
