An epidemic of cholera in a south-south-south-wrist town killed nearly 60 people and has reached the past 1,300 others in the last three days, the health authorities announced on Saturday.
The epidemic in the city of southern Kosti was mainly imputed to contaminated drinking water after the city’s water plant stopped due to a notorious paramilitary group attack, said the Ministry of Health. The group has been fighting the country’s soldiers for about two years.
The ministry said in a statement that the disease had killed 58 people and removed 1,293 others between Thursday and Saturday.
The ministry said he had taken a series of measures to combat the epidemic, including the launch of a cholera vaccination campaign in the city.
The disease killed more than 600 and slowed down more than 21,000 others between July and October from last year.
Cholera is a very contagious disease that causes diarrhea, leading to severe dehydration and could be fatal if not immediately treated, according to the WHO. It is transmitted by the ingestion of food or contaminated water.
