Tottenham have responded to reports linking captain Son Heung-min to Barcelona by triggering a clause in his contract that ties him to the club until 2026.
Son’s current deal, signed in 2021, was for four years but contained the option for Spurs to extend it by 12 months, which they did to avoid losing the 32-year-old for free this summer.
The South Korean’s potential availability has reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona, who are looking for cut-price options given their financial problems.
We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, which now runs until summer 2026 🤍

The La Liga club was also thought to be attracted to Son given his popularity in the Far East and the potential commercial opportunities that would have brought.
Son signed for Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, with the club this morning describing him as a “modern-day great”.
He made 431 appearances for the club, scoring 169 goals – the fourth most in Spurs history.
A four-time Asian Player of the Year, Son won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2021/22, alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, having scored 23 times.
