Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have both been granted temporary registration with the Spanish government despite repeated refusals from the Spanish FA and La Liga in recent weeks.
Spanish Sports Council, Consejo Superior de Deportes [CSD]ruled Wednesday that both players should be made available for selection until a final ruling is made in the case.
Both Olmo and Victor were not registered in La Liga on December 31 after Barcelona failed to meet the deadline to prove they were complying with the league’s Financial Fair Play rules.
The club’s attempts to re-register the players were rejected by the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and La Liga, leading the Catalan club to submit a 52-page appeal and more than 60 accompanying documents to the CSD, the highest sports council of Spain. government.
Olmo had a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave on a free transfer if he was not registered, but he and Victor remained determined to stay at the club.

La Liga rules state that a player cannot be registered twice in the same season. However, Wednesday’s decision means both players can – at least for now – feature again for Barcelona in all competitions this season.
In a press release, the CSD granted Barcelona the “urgent precautionary measure requested by FC Barcelona and by players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
“This measure, provisional until the appeal filed by the club and the aforementioned players is definitively resolved, suspends the agreement of the monitoring committee of the RFEF-LaLiga coordination agreement, dated January 4, 2025, and the cancellation of sports licenses. of the aforementioned players.
The news broke shortly before the Spanish Super Cup semi-final between Barcelona and Athletic Club, but neither player was named in the squad for tonight’s match.
Manager Hansi Flick said before the match: “I’m really happy with it [the ruling]. I think the whole team, Dani and Pau of course, are more than delighted. And also everyone at the club.
“It’s the right decision.”

Barcelona sporting director Deco echoed Flick’s sentiment: “I’m happy for the players. We have been through very difficult days and the players want to play.
“But we are very happy with the result and that the CSD proved us right, which is the most important thing.”
However, Jon Uriarte, president of Athletic Club, Barcelona’s semi-final opponents, said of the result that “we see things that are ridiculous”, adding that “cases like this don’t do any favors in Spanish football.
