What is your favorite bad Batman? Most will say the Joker, some could say Catwoman or Bane, but there are options in Gogo. Did you know, however, that inside Batman’s extended thugs gallery is also the original Bat-man? Yes, Count Dracula appeared in three Batman films – but you can’t watch one.
It is not as external to a pairing as it seems. Batman fights mainly other monsters in costumes – from cat clowns, including scarecrows, rejected hosts of the Show quiz – but some of the Nemeans of Dark Knight are downright supernatural. Take Ra’s Al Ghul, the head of the demon, which remained young and in good shape for 700 years with the help of the magic pit Lazare, a functional fountain of youth.
A handful of comics from Batman – “Dark Knight, Dark City” by Peter Milligan, Grant Morrison “Batman” Epic and “Detective Comics” by Ram V – presented Gotham City as a poisoned chalice, literally haunted by Bat Demon Barbatos . Barbatos is an enemy, Batman can only fight by jumping the darkness in himself and inspiring hope in Gotham.
In the frightening history “Sanctum” (published in “Legends of the Dark Knight” # 54), Batman falls through a grave and meets some of the ghosts of Gotham. Writer / artist Mike Mignola considers “Sanctum” Pivot to its subsequent creation of HellboyAnd in 2000, he returned to put Batman in a story completely out of Lovecraft: “The fate that came to Gotham.” Some of Batman’s inhuman enemies also include vampires. “Batman: Caped Crusader ‘presented an episode where the villain was The night vampiress teenager. As for the Lord of the Vampires himself, he and The Dark Knight met in 1992 Comic “Batman and Dracula: red rain” By Doug Moench and Kelley Jones.
Decades before this comic strip, however, two very different filmmakers put Dracula against Batman: Andy Warhol and the director Philippine Leody M. Diaz.
Andy Warhol made a Batman vs Dracula lost film
The 1960s were a highlight of Bat-Mania, thanks to the television series “Batman” with Adam West and Burt Ward. This media threw propelled “Batman” to the films, and Warner Bros. Even launched a Batman and Godzilla crossover film. In one way or another, Warner Bros. did not think of associating Batman with Dracula, a much more natural adjustment, so the fans had to fill.
Andy Warhol, one of the pop artists of the 1960s, would have been a fan of Batman. It is not surprising; The comics of superheroes from the 60s are perfectly integrated into pop art aesthetics, especially the sometimes surreal stories of Batman and Superman. In 1964, Warhol screened his film “Batman Dracula”, a silent film in black and white on the two title characters (both played by actor Jack Smith) chasing and competing. Since he has not been authorized by DC Comics, “Batman Dracula” has never been widely released, but The fragments of the film arrived on the internet.
No luck for the other Batman / Dracula film, which is considered to be losing outright (at least for the moment). “Batman Fights Dracy” was a 1967 film released and distributed to the Philippines. Enemy of Batman (Jing Abalos), Dr. Zorba (Ramon d’Alva) resuscitates Count Dracula (Dante Rivero) to defeat his enemy. Instead, Batman’s commitment to justice wins over Dracula. Like Warhol’s film, this film was an unauthorized adaptation and no sequence is known for surviving. However, some fixed images and posters of “Batman Combat Dracula”.
Two completely independent filmmakers falling on the same idea, just three years apart, testifies to a strong premise. Thus, in 2005, DC finally Greenlit an official film by Batman vs Dracula.
There is a Batman against Dracula animated film that you can watch
“The Batman against Dracula” is located in the simultaneous cartoon of Batman, 2004 “The Batman”. The film was presented between the second and third seasons of the cartoon, using the same conceptions of characters and the same distribution, as well as the guest stars Peter Stormare as the count and Tara Strong as Vicki Vale. In some respects, “The Batman against Dracula” is an extensive episode, but it is structured as an autonomous characteristic. You only need Batman’s knowledge, not “The Batman”, to take advantage of it. It is also much more violent than the cartoon itself, with images of blood and horror movies on the screen. (You cannot do Dracula’s justice to TV-Y7.)
The configuration of the film is as follows: after Dracula was defeated in Transylvania of the decades before, his killers sent his body through the sea to Gotham. Dracula is dormant for years, until the penguin (chasing an buried treasure card) falls on his grave and accidentally revives. The relaunched Dracula Hypnotized Penguin in his servant, at the Renfield in the original novel, and continues Vicki in the same way that he made Mina Harker. (Dracula later transforms the joker into a vampire, so I guess it makes him Lucy?)
With the real Van Helsing, probably dead for a long time, Batman has to withdraw to defeat the new threat of Gotham. The film contrasts Batman and Dracula, the Lord Vampire himself seeing Batman as his self-proclaimed heir. “Will not be flattered,” replied Batman, but Dracula will, “we launched shadows.” Even their conceptions of characters are reflected. Dracula’s course falls around his shoulders and hides it, but when he spreads his arms, the course takes on the appearance of the wings, in the same way as Batman’s Cape Town. The two dress in black, but Cap de Dracula has red reflections, contrasting the blue tones of the Batman costume. Unlike Batman, however, Dracula can literally Fly, disappear in the shadows and become a bat. To defeat him, Bruce Wayne may have to get out of the dark.
It is not Batman’s greatest film, of course, but “The Batman vs Dracula” lives up to his game title that is both full of action and very scary.
“The Batman against Dracula” is available to buy and rent on many digital platforms, including Video premium.
