Bengaluru, renowned under the name of the Indian Silicon Valley, has become synonymous with implacable traffic loops, a by-product of its rapid urban expansion. Narrow roads, an increase in vehicles and an overloaded public transport system have left the shuttles trapped in a blockage, an impact on productivity and quality of life.
In the midst of growing frustrations, a Reddit user asked how the city could face companies applying the return to the office while the rents skyrocket, forcing a lot to live far from their workplaces.
“Companies are categorical about the work of its functions and the government does not wish to decongest the city. The rents soar and people must live far from their workplaces to save money. What is the solution here? The user wrote.
The position struck a sensitive string, triggering a wave of suggestions. Some have called for policy changes, including stricter traffic rules and better road management. “Modify RTO rules to drive other state vehicles in Bengaluru. Impose a monthly pass or any other system that is feasible. This will reduce at least 10 to 15% of vehicles on the road, ”suggested a user. Others have underlined a better pedestrian infrastructure, urging the authorities to maintain the trails and apply parking rules.
For individual commuters, practical solutions included the adjustment of working hours to avoid advanced traffic. “If you go to the office by car alone, start before 8:30 am or after 10:30 am. Ditto in the evening – before 5 p.m. or after 8 p.m., ”advised a user.
Some have looked at unconventional alternatives. “Public transport is working, but the connectivity of the last mile is a huge problem. The use of unicycles and foldable scooters could be the way to follow, ”says a comment. Others have put pressure on businesses, suggesting that companies provide compulsory shuttle services for at least a third of their workforce.
Despite the efforts of the sporadic government to improve infrastructure and traffic management, current construction and road maintenance projects often worsen the short -term situation. While the urban sprawl of Bengaluru continues uncontrolled, the residents are left in search of bypass solutions in a city which seems to be perpetually trapped in traffic.
