Bing Crosby The old house officially hit the market after almost six decades.
The old French castle style house in the 1920s of the singer, which is on five acres of land, about 18 miles from San Francisco, in the County of San Mateo, is currently on the market for $ 40 million, in partnership with the list of list Jennifer Gilson by Golden Gate Sotheby’s International Realty.
Bing and his wife, actress Kathryn Grant, bought the house in the 1950s, in order to raise their children outside Hollywood projectors, and he continues to be the family home. The couple’s son, Harry Crosby, says that Grant continued to live at home after Bing’s death in 1977, and many Crosby trophies, including his Oscars for the 1944 film, “Going My Way”, are still exposed.
“It is not only a luxury house – it is a piece of American history. From its elegance as a French castle to its light past with icons like Bing Crosby and the legendary Seabiscuit, this area represents an era of grandeur which is almost impossible to reproduce today,” Gilson at Fox Business told. “Nestled on more than five acres in the most prestigious enclave in Hillsborough, it offers the ultimate combination of intimacy, inheritance and timeless sophistication. It is more than a residence – it is a benchmark for the golden age of California.”

After Grant’s death in September 2024, their children decided that it was time to let go of the 11 bedroom house and 10 bathrooms and nearly 14,000 square feet. According to Gilson, the price of $ 40 million could establish a record in Hillsborough.
“It is difficult to turn the page emotionally, but all the good things end,” said Harry Global mansionAdding that it was an “inevitable decision”, because he and his brothers and sisters all live in different regions of the country.

Before the red entrance door is a brick courtyard, bordered by green hedges and stone pillars, looking up towards the facade in red and white faded brick from the house.
Once through the entrance doors, the guests will meet in the magnificent hall, with light wooden floors, decorated with a blue carpet, gray walls with square moldings, decorated with ornate gold art and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
A large staircase with a complex wooden balustrade leading to the upper level can be found on the right side of the hall.

The spacious living room, which said that Harry said to Mansion Global is his favorite room of the house, presents a piano with tail, from floor windows to the ceiling, bringing a lot of natural light, as well as a door leading to grassy fields outside.
Harry remembers that his family gathered around the tail piano during the holiday season to sing Christmas songs, including his father’s successful song, “White Christmas”. The room includes a wood fireplace, hardwood floors, several chandeliers and sculptures adorned on the walls.

The Bing office above all kept the way he left him before his death, with numerous prizes he collected during his exposed career. The room has many floors from the floor to the ceiling, as well as wooden panels with hand carved models on the distant wall.
In wooden woodwork is a wooden chimney and integrated shelves, which are at the top of hardwood floors completely covered with an important red carpet. A wooden desk is in front of a large window, with white armchairs placed in front of it.

Harry told Mansion Global that a large part of the wood used for the woodwork found in the house, as well as the wooden balustrade for the staircase, came from the collection of William Randolph Hearst, a close friend of Bing’s and a famous newspaper publisher. The wood used in the house, which came from Europe, had remained from the construction of the Hearst castle in San Simeon.
Elsewhere in the house is the unique dining room, which is in a circular space surrounded by French glass doors leading to the courtyard. The room is large enough to house a dining table large enough for 12 people and has a large chandelier in Venetian glass hanging on the center of the room.

One of the 11 bedrooms found in the house is the spacious primary suite, which has white walls, with the exception of an accent wall above the bed, white carpet floors and a wood fireplace. A highlight key to the master bedroom is the luxurious adjoining bathroom.

Just as pleasant as the master bedroom, the remaining rooms are found throughout the house. One of them has several windows from the floor to the ceiling with beige walls, a chandelier in the center of the room, two large mirrors on each side of the blue bed and a paint by Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady” hung on the wall.

The massive courtyard of the house once had a swimming pool, but it was filled to ensure the safety of children. The backyard now has a large grassy field, which offers a lot of space for family gatherings.
