The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) should introduce major reforms in its examination system, deploying board of directors twice a year for class X from 2026. In addition, CBSE, according to A Times of India report will be launched a global program for its 260 foreign schools affiliated during the 2026-27 academic year.
This decision, originally delayed due to the cocovated pandemic, aligns with the national education policy (NEP) 2020, which prioritizes flexibility and an approach centered on students.
The Ministry of Education, led by Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, recently summoned a discussion with officials and representatives of the CBSE of the National Research and Education Training (NCERT), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalya Samiti (NVS). The proposed changes have been fully examined and would have been opened for a public consultation next Monday.
“By offering several attempts, CBSE seeks to create a more favorable learning environment which favors conceptual understanding in relation to memorization by heart,” said a manager in the report.
The reform aligns with international evaluation models, such as SAT in the United States, which allows students to resume exams and submit their best results. Change also promotes skills -based assessments, emphasizing formative learning and skills control over traditional summative assessments.
A key objective of this initiative is inclusiveness. Students faced with challenges such as anxiety or examination disease will benefit from multiple opportunities to achieve their best. CBSE also invests in teacher training to ensure a smooth transition to this new evaluation model.
Minister Pradhan stressed the importance of these reforms in the creation of a stress -free learning environment. “Improvement and reform of exams are a key step on this subject. This reform will help to mitigate stress related to exams and ensure a more balanced evaluation system, “he said.
In addition to evaluation reforms, CBSE will present its global study program for foreign schools affiliated during the university year 2026-27. The study program will integrate basic Indian subjects, addressing students in an international environment while retaining CBSE educational standards.
In addition, CBSE has introduced stricter directives for schools subjecting comments on the exams of the Class 10 and 12 council. Schools must download structured observations on the OECMS portal the same day as the examination. Vague or delayed responses will not be taken into account, and CBSE has ordered schools to send additional questions to qpobservation@cbshiksha.in.
CBSE has also published a consulting notice to students and stakeholders against disinformation related to paper leaks and examination irregularities, exhorting them from only official communications.
This year, more than 42 Lakh students are taking the exams of the CBSE board of directors in 7,842 centers in India and abroad.
