Delhi Police took a creative and humorous approach by issuing a party-themed advisory targeting drunk drivers and troublemakers on New Year’s Eve. Their post on X featured a sarcastic tone, warning against any bad behavior.
“Delhi Police wishes hooligans a Happy New Year 2025!” We’re having a Cell Block Party,” the post announces. The caption added: “Who needs a countdown when you can count down the days until your release.” »
The Delhi Police added a humorous twist to their notice by describing the ‘opening artiste’ as a breathalyzer to catch drunk drivers, followed by acts like ‘DJ Buckle Up’, ‘DJ Safety First’ and the band ‘ Defensive Drivers.” The notice also called for a “VIP lounge for all,” offering a seating area with cold cell bars and hot beats.
They creatively highlighted transportation options in “SUVs with special red and blue beacons” and radar-driven cinematography. Adding to the sarcasm, the message stated: “If you spot anyone who needs to party, just dial 112 and let the good times roll”, with the location being the “nearest police station”.
Following the example of the Delhi Police, the Assam and Calcutta police have also issued similar messages discouraging drunk driving. The Kolkata Police shared a party-themed banner promising a “special performance by DJ Traffic Cops, Kolkata”. Their message humorously stated: “Free entry for reckless drivers, drunk drivers, traffic signal violators, cyclists without helmets and other eligible violators. Time and place: Calcutta police zone. TRY NOT TO BE OUR GUESTS.
The Assam Police encouraged people to “ring in the New Year safely” by sharing funny quotes inspired by Bollywood film titles. These include “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge By Drunk Driver Nahi!” ”, “Andaz Apna Ana Lekin Safety Sabki Sabki” and “Dil Chahta Hai But the law does not do it”. Drive sober.
Meanwhile, in a unique move, the Noida Police announced plans to arrange cabs for drunk drivers to ensure they reach home safely. Reports mention that police will have hired taxis at night, with officers stationed at help desks in shopping malls, pubs and restaurants to prevent intoxicated people from driving cars or bikes.
