Derrickson should make the film. He will also co-write the scenario alongside Cargill, With whom he worked in close collaboration since the Hit of the 2012 escape “Sinister”. The duo will also produce the film, which is based on the novel by Christopher Golden, which was published by St. Martin’s Press. There is not yet a word about who will feature in the adaptation, or how long the production will be in progress.

So what exactly is he talking about? The name refers to the Kolyma route in Siberia, which is a 1,200 -mile road section near the Arctic Circle. Not only have many drivers met their disappearance there, but thousands of Goulag prisoners from the Soviet Union also did while they were building it. According to the official synopsis of the book:

Fascinated by history, the producer of documentary Felix “Teig” Teigland is in Russia to lead the highway, imagining a new series capturing life and death on the bone road with a journey to the city of Akhust, “The Cold Place on Earth”, collecting stories of ghosts and local legends along the way. Only, when Teig and his team reach their destination, they find an abandoned city, except a catatonic girl of nine years – and a pack of predatory wolves, faster and more intelligent than wild animals should not be.

Scott Derrickson seems contained to continue making horror movies

Golden, Vince Cheng and Pete Donaldson should serve as executive producers on the project. We do not know how much he is in the development stage, but Derrickson and Cargill end “The Black Phone 2”, which should be released later this year. We imagine that it will at least have to wait until the press tour for this suite is in the rear view mirror.

What is important here is that Derrickson and Cargill seem determined to stay in the world of horror at the moment. Derrickson had worked on great films such as his remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, which did not go particularly well, before “Sinister” overthrows his career. This helped him get the job to direct “Doctor Strange”, which put him on the map significantly. Derrickson and Cargill had developed a version of “Doctor Strange 2” Before leaving for creative differences.

Since then, they stick to horror. “The Black Phone” turned out to be a huge success in 2022, which led to the next year. This also led to “The Gorge”, which has become the largest film for an Apple TV + film to date this year. What is clear is that this duo will no longer take a break with the horror of soon.
