Finding rented accommodation in India is not an easy task. Cramped spaces, high rents and unwanted curfews make renting a many-headed monster that many people are forced to confront. Even members of the showbiz industry are not immune.
Actor Yamini Malhotra, a popular name in the world of showbiz, who also participated in Bigg Boss 18, shared his heartbreaking experience while looking for a place to rent.
The actress known for her bold personality and dynamic television presence has revealed the challenges she faced while trying to find a house in the city.
In an emotional message, Yamini explained how landlords and agents would ask her questions such as: “Are you Hindu or Muslim?” or “Gujarati or Marwadi?” which left her perplexed and upset.
In an Instagram post, the actor described his ordeal and asked, “Does being an actor make me less worthy of a home?” It’s shocking how these questions still exist in 2025. Can we really call this the city of dreams if dreams have conditions?
She also revealed that landlords are hesitant to rent a house to her just because she is an actress. She has difficulty finding accommodation because many landlords are unwilling to rent to people in the area.
Despite Mumbai’s reputation as the ‘city of dreams’, the actress pointed out the irony that some dreams seem to come with strings attached, especially for actors.
She also featured in Main Teri Tu Mera and the 2016 Telugu film, Chuttalabai.
Yamini had entered Bigg Boss 18 as a wildcard contestant. She was kicked out of the house after a few weeks. The reality show hosted by Salman Khan concluded on January 19 with Karan Veer Mehra lifting the coveted winner’s trophy.
Earlier, another Bigg Boss 17 contestant Khanzaadi highlighted her difficulties in finding accommodation in Mumbai, citing religious discrimination as a significant obstacle. She expressed her frustration, revealing that the landlords rejected her solely because of her Muslim background. Khanzaadi stressed the importance of finding a safe place to live, especially since she is alone in Mumbai, with no family nearby.
