The government’s Ministry of Efficiency has built a “firewall” Elon Musk’s team of the 200 employees inherited approximately employed by what was previously called the United States Digital Service (USDS), sources say to Wired.
Since the acquisition of Musk’s Usds, the sources say, the original staff of the USDS has had very few contacts with the Musk team. A DOGE representative was to join several USDS meetings last week, but they did not show up. The only time the inherited staff met recently installed staff was a Friday Meeting with Doge’s HR chief, Stephanie HolmesWhat was wired for the first time. During this meeting, Holmes was unable to provide many answers to a series of issues related to the delayed resignation program offered to most federal employees.
“They do not manifest themselves that they clearly don’t care about us,” a source told Wired. “It’s the biggest” fucking you “because we are waiting for them to come and they don’t do it.”
Without new guidelines, the sources of the USDS told Wired that they worked as if things were “as usual”, continuous work on long -term projects that were transmitted by the administration of the president Joe Biden.
“They don’t talk to us,” said Wired, an USDS employee.
“As far as I know, they hide,” said another.
The student of the Musc team underlines the secret surrounding Doge’s staff. Last week, Wired reported that young names without name The staff of the USDS and the General Services Administration were responsible for interviewing the code. “We are afraid that the names of these people come out and their personal life will be disrupted, which is exactly what happened last week, which is really unfortunate,” said Thomas Shedd, Director of the Service technological transformation of GSA, Said during a meeting with the staff on Monday.

The former deputy administrator of the USDS, Ted Carstensen, the highest official of the USDS outside the Musk orbit, resigned Thursday. He has repeatedly invited members of the Musk team, including Doge’s main advisor, Steve Davis, to join the staff meetings, said Wired, but they never showed. Two sources said that Carstensen had been excluded leadership meetings on several occasions and felt outside the decision on decision -making. Carstensen was supposed to meet Holmes on Wednesday, said a source, but the meeting was canceled at the last minute.
In an e-mail of resignation targeted by Wired, Carstensen confirmed that Thursday would be his last day. He said he would not take the delayed resignation that had been colloquially called “the fork” after the Fork in the road email Federal workers received last week offering them a salary and continuous benefits until September 30.
“It was not an easy decision for me to take because my stay in the American digital service was one of the best periods of my career. I believe with all my heart in the mission and I was inspired every day by the commitment, kindness and intelligence of the team, ”wrote Carstensen. “It was important for me to bring the team to a place where everyone could choose their own path to follow, where we are today. I hope each of you landed on the path that suits you best, and I can’t wait to stay in touch and see where it takes you.
Carstensen did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Carstensen’s decision to refuse the “fork” agreement echoes a similar feeling among the wider staff of the USDS. “There is a strong feeling in the USD that people do not want to take the fork because they do not want to send the message they accept or approve the wider plan in a way,” said a source of the ‘Usds.
During an internal meeting after the departure of Carstensen, the staff was informed that he would not be replaced and that his responsibilities would be distributed in the rest of the organization, said a source. During the meeting, staff members deplored the state of the organization, fearing the departure of Carstensen, Musk and his team fully control.
“It is almost indisputable for the USDS to be at the end of the game,” said a person in the meeting.
“It’s time to start taking care of life boats,” said another.
