Work is underway for all men in Poland to take military training, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

In a speech in the Polish parliament, Tusk said that the government was aimed at giving all the details in the coming months.

Efforts are made to “prepare a large-scale military training for each adult man in Poland,” he told Sejm.

“We will try to have a ready model by the end of this year so that every adult man in Poland is formed in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to potential threats.”

Tusk said the Ukrainian army has 800,000 soldiers, while Russia has about 1.3 million and is to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, to 500,000 against around 200,000 now.

“We are talking about the need to have an army of half a million in Poland, including reservists,” he said.

“It seems that if we organize things judiciously and that I speak constantly with the Minister of Defense, we will have to use several action plans.

Tusk said women could also have military training, but “war is even further the field of men”.

Poland already plans to spend 4.7% of its economic production for defense this year, the highest proportion in the NATO alliance.

Tusk told Parliament that expenses should increase to 5% of GDP.

Previously, President Duda proposed to modify the Constitution to make defense expenses at a level of 4% of compulsory GDP

The Prime Minister also said that he supported Poland with the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel land mines, and perhaps also the Dublin Convention which prohibits the use of cluster ammunition.
