Electronic arts published the source code for Command and conquer to a community of modders who like to design new levels for the vintage real -time strategy game.
This is a good decision for the community, but it also tells me that EA sees no real way to generate solid income on the directors of the real -time strategy brand, which was popular when I grew up. This part makes me sad, but it is worth facing reality.
Jim Vessella, producer C&C in EA, noted that the company launched the C&C Ultimate collection on Steam last year. It was a positive step towards maintaining the inheritance of command and conquest, but he said that EA always had the ambition to provide even more improvements in the C&C franchise.
So shortly after the launch in 2024, EA ordered Luke “Cchyper” Feenan (a veteran from the C&C community to Luke “which was part of our community council for the remastered collection C&C). Feenan was also involved in setting up the C&C Ultimate Steam collection in March 2024.
EA asked Feenan to officially search for improvements to many games from the Ultimate Collection. With full access to the C&C archives in EA, Feenan proposed some ambitious ideas on behalf of the community, and in the past year, he devoted himself to delivering these initiatives.
In a press release, Feenan said: “For those of you with impressive C&C fans with whom I have not crossed the way before, my name is Luke Feenan, alias. “Cchyper”. I am a veteran of more than 20 years of the C&C community, a longtime modder and a CNCNET administrator. I was also fortunate to have been involved in the development of the C&C Remastered collection under the mentoring of Jim Vessella. »»
During the past year, he worked alongside C&C stakeholders to restore the archives of the Source Complete Source code for C&C games to manufacturer’s states, which now offers the team the possibility of correcting these classic games more in -depth in the future. As a longtime modder, it was incredible to finally have the chance to dive deep into the source code of these games and see how they work, Feenan said.

Almost five years ago now that EA has published the Source Code of remastered collection files C&C. This version received praise in the video game industry and allowed the community to create incredible content for the remastered collection. In response to the C&C archive restoration process, EA now publishes the source code entirely recovered for Command & Conquer (AKA, Tiberian Dawn) and C&C Red Alert under the LPG license.
This will allow those of the community who continue to create content for these classic entries in the franchise, and Feenan hopes that this will help communities like CNCNET to continue to support these games and keep them playable for future generations to come.
Feenan said the W3DHUB community has done great things with the C&C Renegade engine for almost 20 years now and that their projects postpone the absolute limits of the game. To support them by taking the game and their impressive projects at the higher level, EA also publishes the complete source code of C&C Renegade under the LPG.
“We are all really delighted to see what awaits us in reserve for the community at W3DHUB and what they can do with this version,” said Feenan.
And finally, by appreciating the community of C&C generals which kept the game alive with their energy and their coherent passion, organizing multiplayer tournaments and produces incredible content, Feenan said that the company publishes the complete source code under LPG for C&C generals and its extension pack, zero hour.
“I know that the general community / ZH will do incredible things with this source code press release, and I am delighted to see what the C&C Online team then does with the multiplayer experience for these games,” said Feenan.
EA also said that this would allow the STEAM workshop to be supported for more C&C titles to allow users to download their personalized cards. This has been a community request for a very long time, so EA can finally give creators MAP an official and permanent house on the Steam workshop for content.
Now support for Steam Workshop has been put online: C&C Renegade, C&C Generals & Zero Hour, C & C 3 Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath, C & C Red Alert 3 & Uprising and C & C 4 Tiberian Twilight.
EA has also updated all the tools of the mission publisher and Builder World so that you can publish cards directly in the Steam workshop. When you subscribe to an element of the Steam workshop (via the customer or the web page), the Games will now reduce this content when you are launching the game and the cards will be displayed in the solo / multiplayer card selection menus.
“We are all impatient to see the fun and crazy cards you download,” said Feenan.
EA publishes a “Management of Modding C&C”Pack which contains the XML source files, diagram, script, shader and map for all games that use the Sage engine. This has been another wish for the community for almost 15 years now, so Feenan said that he was delighted to do that, and it should help the community create incredible content and mods for the years to come.
“I would like to take a moment to thank all our community game households who supported us throughout this trip with their invaluable comments and encouragement, also a big thank you to all those who reported bugs and problems for C&C games on Reddit and Steam,” said Feenan. “And of course to the whole C&C community to support these games for over 25 years.”
Feenan thanked the EA team working in various studios and departments around the world that have helped get there (there are too many to name!). Their support for this project and the C&C franchise was really motivating during the final push to launch it. He also thanked EA’s partners and the supporters, including technical director Brian Barnes and Vessella.
Vessella said that, as for previous modding initiatives, the content generated by the user for C&C titles is CONTROL DE MODDING CONTROL AND CONQUEANTSwhich have been updated to reflect this initiative. Congratulations to EA. As we have seen lately, there are worse spells for aging the properties of the game.
