Newcastle United Manager Eddie Howe should receive the city’s freedom after the historic victory of the Carabao Cup of the club against Liverpool.
Howe led the Magpies to a 2-1 Sunday victory, guaranteeing his first major trophy since 1969.
In recognition of this achievement, he will receive the highest civic honor that Newcastle can give – a distinction previously granted to club legends such as Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn.
The announcement comes when another local hero, defender Dan Burn, was nominated for the freedom of Northumberland.
The player born in Blyse played a key role in the final, scoring Newcastle’s opening goal in Wembley – the first of the club at the stadium in 25 years.
Karen Kilgour, head of the Newcastle municipal council, was delighted to appoint Howe for honor.

“Generations of supporters have never seen their beloved club raising a domestic trophy, and under its direction, we all now have precious memories of a really unforgettable day,” she said.
The formal confirmation of the Howe price should take place during a complete meeting of the council later this year.
Meanwhile, the chief of the county council of Northumberland, Glen Sanderson, praised the contribution of Burn and confirmed the plans to name him for the freedom of Northumberland.
“It is a big victory for the region and the fact that a local boy of Blyth played such a crucial part of the trip is wonderful,” he said.
In addition to these honors, Northumberland National Park paid tribute to Burn in a unique way – temporarily rejoining Elsdon Burn Walk as “Big Dan Burn Walk”.
“Northumberland National Park is a place as large and expansive as Dan itself,” they added, referring to the imposing height of 6 feet 6 feet.
The victory of the Carabao Cup club will be marked by an open roof bus parade across the city. Newcastle United urged fans to “save the date” for March 29, after the international break, when players and staff will present their long -awaited money.
