“Secretary Rollins is committed to reducing egg prices for consumers and continues to use all the tools at his disposal to do so,” said a USDA spokesperson in an exclusive declaration at Fox Business. “After having implemented a five -component plan to reduce the prices of eggs a little more than a month ago, the wholesale price of eggs has dropped by more than 56%. It takes several weeks for a reduction in wholesale prices to be felt on the retail market. This is why we have to remain diligent. The plan works.”
The Five -Stack Plan of the USDA includes strengthening biosecurity on farms to prevent other bird flu epidemics, increasing compensation payments to help farmers repopulate herds faster and reduce regulatory administrative formalities to extend the supply of eggs and accelerate delivery.
It also invests $ 100 million in avian research on flu and vaccine development, while temporarily expanding imports, including Turkey and South Korea, to mitigate the pressure on internal supply.

The sharp increase in egg prices this year was largely caused by a serious highly pathogenic avian flu epidemic (HPAI), which swept away poultry farms at the beginning of 2025. To contain the spread, millions of eggs’ laying hens have been shot in several main producing states, considerably reducing the national supply. According to USDA data, the epidemic in 2025 was one of the most disruptive since the virus reappeared in American herds in 2022, with particularly affected commercial layer operations.
Rollins, speaking alongside Trump at the meeting of Thursday’s office, credited the broader economic agenda for having supported rural America during the transition.
“This president has a vision of realizing the American economy to ensure that we put America first,” she said. “We think that these changes will create, in a short time, unlimited and unprecedented prosperity for our farmers. … But, if not, the USDA is there in the short term to ensure – just as we did at first – that our farmers are taken care of.”

With Easter right in front, Rollins called it the “Super Bowl of Eggs”. The USDA and the White House bet that the recent large dive will soon appear on the shelves of the grocery store.
With egg prices at this Easter, many Americans become creative. Some families completely jump from real eggs and tint objects like marshmallows and potatoes instead.
Others turn to reusable options such as plastic or wooden eggs from craft stores. These can be decorated like real eggs and saved for future years.
