EU eases sanctions on major Syrian economic sectors

In an effort to “facilitate engagement” with the new leaders of Syria, the European Union suspended sanctions against the energy, transport and banks of Syria, on Monday, provided that the new government shows progress towards respect for the rights of minorities and the establishment of a democracy.
