Defense prosecutors and lawyers wish that a federal judge of the Central Islip will place Jeffries under the guard of the Federal Bureau of Prisons up to four months so that he can be hospitalized and receive treatment which could allow his criminal case to continue.

They said the doctors found that his cognitive problems “considerably alter” his ability to understand the accusations against him and to consult and participate in his advice in his defense.
“The progressive nature of its neurocognitive disorder guarantees a continuous decrease over time, further decreasing its already limited functional capacity,” wrote Dr. Alexander Bardey, medical-legal psychiatrist, and Dr. Cheryl Paradis, legal psychologist, wrote following theirDecember assessments. “It is therefore our professional opinion, in a reasonable degree of psychological and psychiatric certainty, that Mr. Jeffries is not competent to continue in the current case and cannot be restored to competence in the future.”
