A long-awaited ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect on Sunday, followed by the first exchange of hostages and detainees between the two sides. The ceasefire and the process of releasing hostages and prisoners will continue over the next three months. This has already sparked discontent among far-right members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Israeli government, with the resignation of a minister. But for now, the release of the first hostages is welcomed in Israel. FRANCE 24’s Oliver Farry spoke to Oliver McTernan, co-founder and director of Forward Thinking, a charity working on conflict resolution and mediation in the Middle East. He gave his views on the prospects for maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza.
