Former OpenAI technology chief Mira Murati launches rival start-up

Mira Murati, the former OPENAI technology director, launched a rival start-up of artificial intelligence focused on the technology widely accessible.

Murati36 years old, unveiled the laboratory of reflection machines, a product and research organization, which aims to make “AI systems more understood, customizable and generally capable” on Tuesday.

A blog article on his website has said that “knowledge of how these systems is formed is concentrated in the best research laboratories, limiting both public discourse on AI and people’s capacities to use effectively AI ”.

The company based in San-Francisco has also poache former OpenAi employees, notably the co-founder John Schulman, Jonathan Lachman, former special project manager, and Barret Zoph, former vice-president.

Murati, who was temporarily managing director of Openai during the failure of the coup against the founder Sam Altman, also hired researchers and engineers with experience in other competitors such as Google, Meta, Mistral And the IA character that will build science and programming models.

“Scientific progress is a collective effort,” said the machine laboratory. “We believe that we will make the understanding of AI humanity most effectively by collaborating with the wider community of researchers and manufacturers.”

He added that he planned to publish technical blog articles, articles and code, because he thought that “sharing our work will benefit not only to the public, but will also improve our own research culture”.

Murati has worked at Openai for over six years, leading to the business efforts to build Chatgpt as an autonomous product and working on the technical breakthroughs of important language models of the company.

In November 2023, the Directors of Openai appointed Murati as an acting managing director after having withdrawn Altman as he was not “frankly frank” to the board of directors. Altman returned a few days later after the protests of employees and investors.

Ilya STSKEVER, an open co-founder and chief scientist who was also involved in the coup attempt, has since left the company to launch a start-up called Superintelligence Safe. He collected $ 1 billion in September to focus on the development of safe AI systems that have a human level or a higher intelligence.
