Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Egede, recently declared his intentions for the island’s future, saying it was “necessary” to take major steps to achieve independence from Denmark.
Egede’s remarks, which follow a December 22 article on Truth Social by President-elect Donald Trump advocating for “ownership and control” of Greenland, focused on the basis of secession from Denmark.
“The new upcoming election period must, together with the citizens, create these new steps, based on the foundations already created,” Egede said. “It is time that we ourselves take a step forward and shape our future, especially with regard to who we will cooperate closely with and who will be our business partners.”
