Newcastle United began a big week by the sixth place in the Premier League while a second half’s strike by Bruno Guimaraes was sufficient for the victory at West Ham.

Eddie Howe’s team has the Carabao Cup final on the horizon and is now at the points with Manchester City and well placed for another inclination at the Champions League after a well -necessary victory on the road.

West Ham saw Tomas Soucek Blaze a great chance on only 46 seconds after the start of the match when Newcastle had their fair share of defensive tremors.

But after that, the Magpies were on the brighter side and Harvey Barnes was well refused twice by Alphonse Areole before the break.

Barnes received a chance on the left of Newcastle’s attack with Anthony Gordon starting a three -game ban and the former Leicester man was a constant threat.

First of all, his shot from the pass of Kieran Trippier was scratched before the French goalkeeper made a good backup of a nearby header.

None of the two parts could find the net in the first half, but the breakthrough came when Guimaraes pushed into a barrian cross to put the Magpies on the three-point path.

West Ham has not yet won a match in the Premier League after conceding and despite obtaining many balls, and sending Evan Ferguson, Danny Ings, Lucas Paqueta and Carlos Soler, they couldn’t really test Nick Pope.

Mohammed Kudus, the bright light everywhere for the hosts, saw a powerful blow loaded in the last moments but they looked frank.

The defeat leaves the Hammers 16th in the table – but they have a cushion of 16 points more than healthy on the least unhappy.

A highlight for the crowd was to attack Michail Antonio at the stadium for the first time since a car accident last year, and he was presented to the crowd before the match in emotional scenes.

With 68 goals, he is the top scorer of the Premier League of West Ham and the supporters welcomed him on the ground with a huge banner which covered a large part of the lower level behind a goal, reading “Michail Antonio – our number 9”.

Newcastle, on the other hand, can focus on a second appearance in the League Cup final in three years against Liverpool.

Can they ultimately put an end to this expectation of 70 years for a domestic trophy?
